NOTICE:
On April 15, 2010, ADDS dataserver version 1.4 was released. If you are using the http://weather.aero/dataserver_current link and you are having problems, you may want to change your paths to point to the previous stable version: http://weather.aero/dataserver1_2 until you can migrate your code to work with the new release. Please see the Release Procedures for more information and release notes.
Introduction
The dataserver complements the ADDS web site by
providing flexible and queryable access to real-time METAR, PIREP, AIREP, TAF and AIRSIGMET data.
This service is oriented towards automated parsing and is an
ideal mechanism for users needing more flexible access to raw data
than is available through the web pages.
Data products
Examples are available for each of the data sources below. Most of these examples return data in XML which may be rendered in your browser. Note that different browsers will handle the XML differently. Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox will render the XML by default, whereas Safari, Konqueror, Opera and others will not. Mozilla and Firefox can take a significant amount of time to render some of the larger XML documents.
Please see the Best Practices and Summary of Constraints
sections.
*This is an ADDS-maintained source, and should not be considered an official source of this data
Current Data Cache Files
To prevent excessive load on the server, data sources have a maximum number of results which can be returned. For users who want ALL of the current data for a data source, we generate files with the complete set of results in various output formats. These files are updated every 5 minutes.
Please refer to Current Data Cache Files for more details.
Release Procedures
Each version of the dataserver software is identified by a major and minor release number, such as '1_0,' '1_1,' or '2_0.' Each of these releases may be accessed on ADDS at its own base URL, such as 'http://weather.aero/dataserver1_0,' 'http://weather.aero/dataserver1_1,' or 'http://weather.aero/dataserver2_0.' When new releases occur, the new version and older versions are maintained side by side for a period of time to allow users to transition to the new version. After a suitable time period, old versions may be removed.
For convenience, the base URL 'http://weather.aero/dataserver_current' will always point to the most
recent version of the server. Users who wish to always use the latest version should point to dataserver_current. Users who want the stability of always using the same version should point to a specific numbered version.
Please refer to
Release Procedures for more details
